Graduate Student Loans

Graduate students taking at least 5 graduate level credits (graduate level is considered 400 level and higher) in a given semester can apply for a Federal Stafford Loan after they have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available on-line; paper applications can be obtained from the Penn State Behrend Financial Aid Office at 814- 898-6162. The Title IV code for all Penn State locations is 003329.

A maximum of $8,500 may be borrowed per academic year in subsidized Federal Direct Stafford Loan funds and $12,000 per year in unsubsidized Federal Direct Stafford Loan funds.  Additional loans can be obtained through the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan.

Full-time students, who apply for financial aid by February 15 of each year, will be considered for the Federal Perkins Loan and the Federal College Work-Study Program. Under the work-study program, students work about 10 hours per week for an hourly wage ($10.00).  In most cases, MBA students assist faculty members with ongoing research projects.

Scholarships

Penn State Behrend awards several scholarships to new and continuing MBA students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement.  Scholarships will equal the tuition cost of 3 graduate credits.  By completing this application, the applicant will be considered for the following scholarships:

·         Catherine and Mark Loevner Scholarship
·         B.J. and Barbara Walker Scholarship

Currently enrolled MBA students must submit the scholarship application by May 1 for the upcoming academic year.

New MBA students are considered on a rolling basis upon admission to the MBA program. Priority is given to students who do not have other sources of funding such as tuition reimbursement from an employer or a graduate assistantship.

Tuition Deferment through Employer's Tuition Assistance Plan

Penn State Behrend allows those students who have employer reimbursement to defer tuition payment, usually to the end of the semester. To exercise this option, students must have their employer file a Tuition Reimbursement Approval Form with the Penn State Behrend's Bursar's Office each semester. The completed form can be faxed to the Bursar's Office at 814-898-7146.

Deferred Payment Plan

Penn State's deferred payment plan allows students to defer payment of 2/3's of their semester bill. This plan allows you to pay over a period of three months with payments of 1/3 of the semester charges. The first 1/3 of tuition, fees and room & board (if applicable) is payable by the due date of the semester bill and the remaining 2/3's is payable over the subsequent two months. There is a $45 fee to use this plan, payable with the first 1/3 payment.

Billing

Questions about billing, the deferred payment plan and tuition reimbursement can be answered by the Bursar's Office. Contact them directly at 814-898-6224.
