Undergraduate Admissions Apply as a Freshman In most cases, freshmen are admitted to a Penn State academic college or unit and not directly to a major. On the application for admission, you will be asked to provide a first and second choice of academic program. You will request a specific baccalaureate degree major within the college sometime before your junior year. At that time, you must meet entrance-to-major requirements. Decisions for admission to Penn State's various programs and locations typically are made on the basis of the applicant's requested academic program, space availability, and the quality of the applicant's academic credentials. See high school requirements for admission and criteria for admission of first year students. Apply for an Associate Degree Program Typically, decisions for admission to Penn State's various programs and campuses are made on the basis of the applicant's requested academic program, space availability, and the quality of the applicant's credentials in relationship to those of other applicants. See high school requirements for admission to an associate degree program and criteria for admission of first year students. Two-Year Programs
