Men and Women's Cross
Country All-Conference Teams Announced, Gorny Named Runner of the
Year
The
men and women's cross country all-conference teams were announced
earlier last week by the AMCC. Both the men and women's teams
had many runners to receive honors, seven from the men's team and
six from the women's side.
First year head coach Greg Cooper was
given the honor of Coach of the Year not only for the men's team but also
the women's team. Coach Cooper lead both of his teams to the AMCC
Championship titles this season.
On the men's side, taking top honors was sophomore runner Kevin Gorny (Erie
McDowell) who was named the Runner of the year. Gorny has placed first
in every race run for the Behrend Lions this season. Gorny also took
first overall at the AMCC Championships with a time of 27:51.
Behrend's Tyler Lyon (Washington/Trinity) was honored with the Newcomer of
the Year award. Lyon has been one of Behrend's top three runners all
season long. A number of other Berhend men made the all-conference
team as well. These include senior runner Andy Marshall (Brunswick,
OH/Brunswick) and sophomore runner Andy Iams (Harrison City/Penn Trafford)
who received honors for a second time in his career. Rounding out the
selections for the men are three freshmen runners that have contributed a
great deal to this championship squad. These include Steve Monie
(Butler/Butler), Bob Cizek (Pittsburgh/Shaler), and Matt Alto (Uniontown,
OH/Archbishop Hoban).
For the women, freshman Emily Berry (Reno/Rocky Grove) took away the
Newcomer of the Year award. Berry has competed strong all season and
has made solid finishes for the blue and white to win meets. Junior
runner Jenny Bailey (Corry/Corry) was named to the all-conference team for a
third year in a row. Bailey finished second overall at the AMCC
Championship meet with a time of 24:22. She has also finished first
among her team in five out of six meets this season. Senior Lisa
Brozewicz (Wattsburg/Seneca) received honors as well. Brozewicz made
great strides to improve her times and her hard work paid off. Lisa
had some outstanding finishes for the Behrend Lions this season to help them
to the AMCC title. Three freshmen runners round out the honorees.
These include Liz Keller (Olean, NY/Bradford), Mallory Souleret
(Pittsburgh/Baldwin), and Alex Falvo (Pittsburgh/North Allegheny).
The men and women's season continues as they will travel to
Lehigh on Saturday, November 10 for the NCAA Mideast Regional meet.
The first race will kick-off around 11 a.m., with the second begining
around 12:00 p.m.
