Softball Splits Non-Conference Games With Grove City

The Behrend softball team (26-6, 12-2) split a home doubleheader on Wednesday, April 19 against visiting Grove City (8-11-1).  These were the final regular season home games for the Behrend Lions who enjoyed an outstanding 11-1 record on their home field.

In game one, Behrend got the lone run of the game when senior Jill Wooldridge (Pittsburgh/Fox Chapel) knocked in Katie Whitby (Tyrone/Tyrone) in the bottom of the third inning.  That was all the blue and white would need as freshman pitcher Julie Koman (McKees Rocks/Montour) threw a complete game shutout, going all seven innings and striking out 14 batters for the 1-0 win.

Behrend held a 2-1 lead late in game two before the Wolverines would rally to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the seventh.  Grove City would get the game-winning run for the 3-2 victory in the ninth inning off Koman who came on in relief. For Behrend, Whitby and freshman Nikki Kaschauer (South Park/South Park) each had an RBI, while junior Sandra Jaussi (Bethel Park/Bethel Park) started the game pitching five innings and giving up just one run.

Behrend softball is back in action on Saturday, April 22, when they travel to AMCC opponent Penn State Altoona for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
