Softball's Macha and Koman Awarded AMCC Weekly Honors

Junior first baseman Kristin Macha (Export/Franklin) and freshman pitcher Julie Koman (McKees Rocks/Montour) have swept the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Player and Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of May 1.

Macha was named AMCC Player of the Week as she went 4-for-8 at the plate as the Behrend Lions swept a doubleheader with the Lake Erie Storm on April 26 to capture the AMCC regular season championship.  Macha, who leads the AMCC in batting average (.475), blasted two doubles and had three RBIs on the day as the blue and white earned the right to host the AMCC Tournament as the #1 seed.  Macha also leads the conference in on base percentage (.514), is fourth in total hits (47), and is sixth in RBIs (29).

Julie Koman
was named AMCC Pitcher of the Week for May 1.  In addition the hurler was honored as the ECAC Pitcher of the Week.  The freshman threw a complete game no-hitter in shutting out Lake Erie, after firing a 1-hitter in her previous outing against Fredonia State.  Koman is currently leading the AMCC in ERA (0.64) and opposing batting average (.156).  This is the third time this season that Koman has been named AMCC Pitcher of the Week.

The Behrend Lions softball team (31-7, 16-2) will host the AMCC Tournament May 5-7 at the Behrend Fields.  Play begins at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, May 5 when #1 Behrend takes on # 4 Frostburg State.
