Penn State Behrend Softball Hammers Medaille for Two AMCC Wins

The Penn State Behrend softball team smacked the Medaille Mavericks at the Behrend Softball Field picking up two wins on Wednesday, March 25 in an AMCC doubleheader.

The blue and white struck early in game one, as Allison Babish
(Coraopolis/Montour) and Ashley Gruber (Burton, OH/Berkshire) both singled before Nikki Kaschauer (South Park/South Park) blasted a ball over the left field fence for a 3-0 lead.  In the top of the third Kaschauer singled before Amy Greene (Erie/Strong Vincent) stepped to the plate and homered, again over the left field fence, to make it a 5-0 game in favor of the Behrend Lions.

Medaille (6-6, 0-2) got on the board and then loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the third, but Julie Koman
(McKees Rocks/Montour) got Medaille’s batter to pop out to second base to end the threat, as Behrend would take a 7-1 lead into the fourth inning.

In the fifth Behrend got runners to second and third with two outs when Brittany Rockey
(Bellefonte/Bellefonte) doubled to centerfield driving in both runners and putting Behrend ahead 9-1.  The blue and white would tack on four more runs in the inning to take a 13-1 lead that would end up as the final score after five innings.  Koman got the win pitching a complete game and striking out three.

Behrend started the second game of the doubleheader by pushing three runs across the plate in the top of the first inning.  Starting pitcher Emma Hahn
(Smethport/Smethport) struck out the side in the bottom of the first and Behrend took a 3-0 lead into the second inning.

The blue and white got two more runs across the plate in the top of the second inning building a 5-0 lead off of five hits.  The
Behrend Lions had a 7-0 lead in the top of the fourth before Greene homered for the second time on the day, crushing the ball over the left field fence to make it 9-0. Rockey doubled in two more runs for an 11-0 lead and Behrend went on to earn a 12-0 win in five innings.

Hahn overpowered the Medaille hitters, pitching a complete game no-hitter.  The freshman struck out ten of the 19 batters she faced.

The Behrend Lions (8-4, 2-0) travel to Mount Aloysius on Saturday, March 28 for an AMCC doubleheader, and host conference foe Frostburg State the next day at the Behrend softball field.  That doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
