Men and Women Sweep AMCC Weekly Swimming and Diving Awards

The Behrend Lions swimming and diving team are dominating the performers of the week honors in the AMCC.  The blue and white have earned the sweep of the performers of the week.

On the women's side, junior Danielle Wilson (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) and sophomore Krystal Kovach (Scott Township, PA/Chartiers Valley) were named swimmer and diver of the week respectively.  Wilson paced the Behrend Lions to a fourth place finish at the Fredonia St. Blue Devil Invitational, placing third in the 500 free with a personal best of 5:33.13, eighth in the 200 back (2:28.44), and fourth in the 200 free (2:08.58). She was also a member of three third place relays (400 medley, 200 free and 400 free).  Kovach has once again performed well in both the 1 meter and 3 meter diving events. She placed second on the 1-meter with a score just shy of an NCAA qualification. She then placed 3rd on the 3-meter board with a score of 382.6.

The men's side was just as impressive.  Junior swimmer, Tom Weir (Rochester, PA/Freedom) and junior diver, Steve Graves (McMurry, PA/Peters Township) were named as performers of the week. Weir had a stellar weekend at the Fredonia St. Invitational with second place finishes in the 100 and 200 backstroke.  His 200 backstroke time of 2:00.76 was a personal record.  Wier also broke a personal best time in the 50 free.  Weir was a pivotal part of the Behrend relay team that set a Fredonia State pool record in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:17.14.  Graves would come back from an injury to take fifth in the 1-meter diving event with a 367.15.  This is the third time that Graves has been name as the diver of the week.

The blue and white will travel to Largo, FL from January 1-9 to take part in winter training and will be back in the Junker Center pool on January 10, when they take on the Edinboro Fighting Scots at 1:00 p.m.
