Penn State Behrend Athletes Earn AMCC Accolades

Penn State Behrend swimming and diving was again represented in the AMCC Athlete of the Week awards. Dustin Fairchild (Corry/Corry) was named the AMCC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, while AJ Kondash (State College/State College) was named the AMCC Men’s Diver of the Week

Dustin Fairchild was the individual high point scorer for the men, taking first among AMCC competitors in an amazing five events.  Fairchild set the standard for AMCC competition in the 500 freestyle (4:56.20), 1000 freestyle (10:43.22), 100 breaststroke (1:02.65), 200 breaststroke (2:15.96), and the 200 IM (2:08.10).  His 200 and 500 freestyle times were both school records.  This is the second time this season that the junior has earned swimmer of the week honors.

AJ Kondash was the AMCC’s top diver at the Grove City Invitational and the AMCC championship, scoring 312.55 points to finish sixth overall.  This is the sixth time this season that the freshman sensation has earned diver of the week honors.

The Behrend men finished with 337 points, a full 208 points better than the closest AMCC competitor, Penn State Altoona, who ended with 129.  The men finished fourth overall in the field of ten, with Westminster taking first-place with a score of 964.5.

Fairchild also qualified for the ECAC Championships held at Harvard University, beginning on Thursday.  He will compete in four events, the 200 breaststroke, 200 freestyle, 200 medley relay, and 400 medley relay.
