Behrend Women's Swimmers Make Big Splash on All-Conference Teams

The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team snagged numerous AMCC honors as the 2008 all-conference teams were announced on February 26.  The Behrend Lions swimmers and divers recently captured their second straight AMCC title with a dominating performance at the AMCC Championships.

Freshman sensation Krystal Kovach (Pittsburgh/Chartiers Valley) was selected as AMCC Women's Diver of the Year.  She took home first-team honors in both 1 meter and 3 meter diving.  Kovach is tops in the Behrend record book on all four diving records.

Grabbing other top league honors were freshman Katie VanEpps (Pleasantville/Titusville) who was selected as the AMCC Co-Newcomer of the Year (along with Morgan Kinville from Pitt-Bradford), and head coach Jen Wallace, who was tabbed as the league's coach of the year for the second straight season.

VanEpps was named all-conference first team for each of the four relay events (200 free, 400 free, 800 free, 400 medley) and selected as second-team all-conference in the 200 IM, the 400 IM, and the 200 fly.

Sara Breese (West Springfield/Northwestern) was also recognized for an outstanding season.  The sophomore was named first-team all-conference in the 50 free, 100 free, and 100 breast, as well as on all four relay teams.

Freshman Shannon Strong (Newfane, NY/Newfane) picked up first-team honors in the 100 fly, as well as on all four relay teams.  She was also a second-team selection in the 50 free and 100 free.

Behrend sophomore Danielle Wilson (Pittsburgh/Plum) was a first-team all-conference selection for all four relay teams, and a second-team choice for the 200 free and 500 free.  Freshman Danielle Palski (Harleysville/Souderton) was also recognized as a second-team pick in the 1650 free.

Kovach, VanEpps, Breese, Strong, and Wilson have all qualified for the ECAC Championships which will take place February 29-March 1 at the University of Pittsburgh.
