Boyea Named AMCC Player of the Year, Six Players All-Conference

Behrend men's tennis star, Miles Boyea (St. Vincent, WI/Upper Canada) was named 2006 AMCC Player of the Year on Friday, April 28.  Boyea ended the season at 9-10 in singles play, but tore through the AMCC, going went 5-1 during the regular season on his way to capturing the championship.  Boyea defeated Pitt-Greensburg's Josh Thorpe and Andy Chisholm from Frostburg State to win the first-flight singles crown.  Along with Player of the Year honors, Boyea was also listed on the first-team all-conference list for first-flight singles and first-flight doubles.

Two of Boyea's teammates also made first-team all-conference, Trevor Dougherty (Meadville/Meadville) was honored for fifth-flight singles while Todd Guarnieri (New Castle/Neshannock) made the list for first-flight doubles as Boyea's teammate.  Guarnieri and Boyea combined to win the first-flight AMCC championship, while  Dougherty was tops in the fifth-flight singles.

Making all-conference second-team was Jim Palmer (Sharon/Sharon) for third-flight singles, Guarnieri for fourth-flight singles, Garrett Grenek (Butler/Butler) for third-flight doubles, and Brian Kaleta (Harborcreek/Harborcreek) also for third-flight doubles.  Palmer went 4-2 in AMCC singles play, Guarnieri tallied a 3-0 AMCC mark, while Grenek and Kaleta combined to go 3-1 as a team in the conference.

Behrend finished second as a team in the AMCC tournament with eight points, two behind conference champion Altoona.
