Men's Tennis Takes Care of Franciscan University of Steubenville

Behrend men's tennis improved to 2-3 on the season on Saturday, March 3 with a 7-2 victory over the Franciscan University of Steubenville.  The men have now won their last two at home after dropping their season opener at Baldwin-Wallace.

Coach Barger's squad was led by Miles Boyea (St. Vincent, WI/Upper Canada) and Scott Shaw (Tulsa, OK/Jenks).  Boyea took his second-flight singles match in straight sets 6-1, 6-2, while Shaw won the first-flight singles match 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.  The two then teamed up to win first-flight doubles in convincing fashion 8-2. 

Also winning matches for Behrend was Jim Palmer (Sharon/Sharon), Brad Nagel (West Alexander/McGuffey), and Trevor Dougherty (Meadville/Meadville).  Palmer won third-flight singles 6-2, 6-4 as well as his doubles match with teammate Garrett Grenek (Butler/Butler) 8-6.  Nagel took fifth-singles with ease 6-2, 6-3, while Dougherty did the same in sixth-singles 6-3, 6-2.

Next up for the men will be Grove City at home on March 7 at 4:00 p.m.  The match will be held at the Westwood Country Club.  From their the men take their annual spring training trip to Hilton Head, S.C. where they will play seven matches against teams from all over the eastern half of the country.
