Women's Tennis Places Third in AMCC Tournament

The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team finished third at the AMCC Championships on October 20 at Frostburg.  Penn State Altoona captured the championship with 17 points, Frostburg took second with 15, Penn State Behrend third with 5 points, and Pitt-Greensburg finished fourth with 2 points.

Angela Albertson (McKean/Villa) won at number-one singles and was tabbed as the league's MVP. In the AMCC Tournament she lost game one 6-1, and trailed in game before she came storming back to win. "Angela refused to lose," said head coach Jeff Barger. "That showed in her final match when she was on the ropes and came back with one of the best comebacks I have ever seen."  In the last two seasons, Albertson was named all-conference at number three singles, and last year at number two doubles. As a freshman she earned all-conference honors at number four singles and number one doubles.

The Behrend Lions won four of the last five AMCC titles in 2000, 1999, 1998, and 1997.  The blue and white finished the season 8-9 overall and 4-3 in the conference.
