Tour of Italy 2008 The Behrend Lions women's basketball team
completed their third trip to Italy from May 20-30, 2008. They
took in the sights and sounds of many well known Italian cities.
They also mixed in a little basketball along the way. The ten day trip began in Venice where they spent a half day on a walking tour of the city and later stayed at Hotel Gabriell . The following two days were spent at a beautiful seaside resort town of Pesaro located along the Adriatic coast. After a tour of the town the Behrend Lions competed and won their first game of the trip versus Italian competition, Basket 2000 Senigallia. The team then traveled to San Marino, the oldest Republic in the world, where the team spent the day sightseeing. Behrend then traveled to Florence. Arguably one of the best cities in the world. Upon arrival the blue and white toured San Marcellino and played their second game of the tour. The Behrend Lions fell to 1-1 in Italy. After three days in Florence the team traveled to Lucca and Pisa, two small and unique towns. At the end of the day the team arrived at their final destination, Rome. Rome houses Italy's most famous sites. The Vatican, Sistine Chapel, ancient Rome, the Trevi Fountain, the Coliseum, and Circus Maximums were team favorites on the tour. The team played their final game of the tour versus Centro Sportino where the blue and white came out with a victory to improve to 2-1 in Italy. Along with a record of 2-1 the Behrend women's basketball team returned with memories that will last a lifetime. |
