Behrend Lions Improve to 5-1 at Home with 88-71 Win Over W & J
On Friday night, the Penn State Behrend women's basketball team shot 55% in the first-half en route to a 41-24 halftime advantage and played even with Washington and Jefferson in the second half in a 88-71 win in game two of the Behrend Winter Classic. The sixteen point win marked Behrend's fourth straight win and sixth in the past seven games as five Behrend Lions reached double-figures. Senior guard Brittany Mays (Knox/Keystone) tallied 17 points to go along with four boards and five steals in almost 30 minutes of work. Meagan Bielanin (Erie/Mercyhurst Prep) connected on 7 x 12 from the floor for 15 points and six boards, while Julia Andrus (Corry/Corry), Kayla O'Connor (Erie/Seneca), and Victoria Innes (Erie/McDowell) had 15, 14 and 12 points respectively. Behrend forced 26 President turnovers and restricted them to 40% shooting from the floor. For the game, Coach Roz Fornari's offensive was sharp connecting on five-of-nine from three-point territory and 29 of 38 at the line. Behrend improves to 7-2 on the season while W & J falls to 4-6. In the early game, Mt. St. Joseph defeated Hood 85-38 behind Christina Marsh's 19 points. Hood was led by Dana Shook's 20 point, four rebound performance. Behrend is slated to meet Mt. St. Joseph in the 3:00 p.m. championship game, while Hood and W & J will play in the 1:00 p.m. consolation contest.
