Phillips Passes Rick Demski, Holds All-Time Scoring Mark

A wise person once said, "Records were made to be broken." On Saturday, February 2, in Frostburg, MD, Erin Phillips did just that, breaking "the record." Phillips hit a lay-up off a pass from sophomore guard Ericka Mozdy in the second half with just under four minutes remaining and broke Rick Demski's ('87-91) all-time scoring mark of 1,466.

Phillips went on to post a season-high 29 points leading the Behrend Lions to an 80-61 AMCC win. She hit 10-of-15 from the field and made 9-of-10 at the free-throw line in 29 minutes of action. Phillips now has scored 1,472 career points. Behrend improved to 11-10 on the season, and 7-2 in the AMCC, but more importantly moved one half game ahead of idle Penn State Altoona (6-2) for the conference lead with only three games remaining.

"She is a great floor leader," said head coach Roz Fornari.  "There is no one that works harder than Erin - no one."  Phillips, a four-year starter, is the women's career leader in free throws made with 472, field-goal percentage at 53.9%, and free-throw percentage at 78%.  Phillips also second in career field goals made with 490 and sixth in career rebounds with 608.

Phillips led the blue and white to the AMCC title as a freshman, an appearance in the ECAC Tournament the following year, and last year to the NCAA Tournament. Phillips has this year's team is gunning for another league crown and postseaston stop. Next up for the Behrend Lions is a game on Wednesday, February 6, at Lake Erie at 6:00 p.m.
