Behrend Lions Kick Off Season With 2-0 Win Over W & J

The Penn State Behrend women’s soccer team kicked off their season with a compelling 2-0 victory over the Washington and Jefferson Presidents on Wednesday, September 2 at the Behrend Fields.

Behrend struck quickly as sophomore Erin McCreary (Pittsburgh/Seton-Lasalle) connected on a header from teammate Heather Klimuszka (Rochester/Greece-Athena) just one minute and eight seconds into the game.  It was only two minutes later when McCreary notched her second goal of the game making the score 2-0, which would prove to be the final score.  Senior goalkeeper Kayla Frost (Venetia/Peters Township) would come up big when it mattered and recorded her first shutout of the season.

“It was nice to score some early goals against a high quality W & J team”, Head Coach Patrick O’Driscoll stated.  “It is a good start, but we need to sustain a high level of play for a full 90 minutes."

Next on the schedule for the Behrend Lions is the annual Herb Lauffer Memorial Soccer Tournament in which Behrend is scheduled to play Juniata at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 5.  Geneseo is slated to play Baldwin Wallace at 12:00 p.m.  The consolation game is set to be played on Sunday, September 6 at 10:00 a.m. with the Championship Game immediately following.
