All three style types may be used with the same web page. However, there is a specific order of precedence on how they are applied to the same web page. The order of precedence is as follows:
The order of precedence is initiated if there are style conflicts among the multiple style sheets. For example, let's say an embedded style sheet specifies that the font color is blue for the <P> elements of a web page. In this same web page, there is an inline style which defines the font color as green for one of the paragraphs. In this case, the inline style will take precedence for that particular paragraph.
There are exceptions to the order of precedence, but these exceptions are beyond the scope of this basic lesson.
