campus. The Committee promotes out-of-class programs that pertain to
the academic mission of the College.

-
Coordination of the Committee’s work with the
Office of Student Affairs may improve the work of the Committee. We
recommend that the Committee chair and vice chair meet with Ken Miller
and other relevant staff to discuss coordination efforts and identify
common issues.
-
Work on improving student attitudes and increase
understanding of how teaching evaluations (SRTE) are used and why they
are important.
-
Work with Greener Behrend to create a culture
where environmental sustainability is valued at Penn State Behrend.
Develop recommendations for ways that students, faculty, and
administration can be more involved in Behrend’s efforts at
sustainability.
-
Providing transportation to civic events.
Investigate ways for students without cars to be more engaged in civic
activities in the community. One particular problem is setting up a
system to get students to the polling places to vote.
-
Students often come to faculty with problems
with housing and/or police and safety that impact on their academic
performance. Most faculty members do not understand the process and
procedures of housing and food services and police and safety, so when
students come to them with problems and ask for help it is difficult to
know who to call. The Committee may discuss this issue and decide if a
survey to students would be helpful to understanding their issues. If so
they may work with Student Affairs and SGA to develop a survey. They may
also work on developing an information sheet for faculty on the
structure and procedures of food and housing and police and safety.
-
Review findings of the Business Development
Survey (review findings)
-
Analyze student attitudes survey data (consider
repeating survey?)
-
Recreation space for students on campus is a
continuing concern. Based on space utilization studies are there
possible alternative recreation spaces that can be identified? (Work
with physical plant)
