1. Promoting Student Critical Thinking

Monday session – Oct. 27, 12:15 – 1:30 pm, Reed 114
Tuesday Session – Oct. 28, 12:15 – 1:30 pm, Reed 114

Inside and outside the university, stakeholders have called for students to be good critical thinkers – but what does that mean? How is it different - if it is different - from what we already do as educators? Dr. Al Warner, Associate Professor of Management, discusses some techniques and approaches.

2 . Classroom Tricks that Make Teaching Easier

Monday session – Nov. 17, 4:00 – 5:15 pm, Reed 114
Tuesday Session – Nov. 18, 12:15 – 1:30 pm, Reed 114

Looking for easy and effective tricks others have used in their classes? Preparing your own teaching strategy requires a lesson to be thoroughly planned, and there is still the risk that it may not turn out well. This session presents you with a bag of tricks observed from Behrend’s classrooms.

3. Teaching and Learning with Assertion-Evidence Power Point Slides

Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2:15 – 1:30 pm, Reed 114

This session is sponsored by the Schreyer Institute Teaching Luncheons.
Presenter: Michael Alley, Engineering Communications, College of Engineering

For many instructors and students alike, PowerPoint is a common instructional and communication tool used in the classroom. However, the common format of the software is in conflict with current understanding of learning and instructional design principles. Michael's research will illustrate a new approach to creating PowerPoint slides that has the potential to be a powerful learning tool.
