[Behrend] has a wonderful Science and Engineering program, there are many clubs and activities to be involved in, the athletic department is incredible and has a wonderful group of coaches, trainers, as well as a top-notch athletic director. There are many people that are active in keeping the Behrend campus alive so there is always something to do.
When Jessica Sarver was searching for a college or university to attend, she wanted to find a small college and a strong School of Science with many in-class and out-of-class opportunities.
“I came to Behrend because it had a good chemistry program, I wanted to run cross-country and track, and I felt comfortable at the campus when I came to visit,” Jessica said.
Jessica’s favorite class was Instrumental Analysis because “that [analysis] is the aspect of chemistry I enjoy most and I like to learn how everything we use in the lab actually works.”
In Behrend’s chemistry program, Jessica’s learning extended outside of the classroom with opportunities to assist in labs and research.
In addition to academics, Jessica is involved in multiple clubs, intramurals, and two varsity sports. Her participation in cross-country and track and field have allowed her to travel all over Pennsylvania and to Boston for championship meets.
“My coach, Coach Cooper, was one of the best to have,” she said. “He taught us all how to be leaders, honest, and how to work hard for what we want. With Coach Cooper and my other teammates, I became involved in a family that I will never forget.
“Academically, I think I’ve excelled here more so than I would have anywhere else. I’ve made so many friends all across the board, and, in general, I’ve enjoyed myself at Behrend.”
