Teaching Philosophy
I attempt to engage students in the subject matter by creating a learning environment that is both fun and stimulating. I don't think learning should be boring or a chore so I go out of my way to keep my classes fluid so that students have some control over how classes evolve. I am not a slave to a syllabus but rather I develop exercises to create class discussions and I allow these discussions to flow in any direction that is relevant. I am a firm believer in active learning approaches to teaching and I practice such techniques in all my classes.
Finally, I believe in the power of a teacher creating insight in students through the use of examples to add color to the black and white of textbook-based theory. These examples come from my own keen interest in world, national, local and business current events and my own experiences in business and in raising (managing) my own children.
